Don Cherry
Without A Song - A Tribute To Perry Como

Don Cherry's contemporary on the pop charts during the 1950's was the "Singing Barber," Perry Como. The two songsters became close friends both on and off the golf course. On this CD, Cherry pays tribute to "Mr. C," singing many of the songs closely associated with the laid-back singer. Accompanying Cherry on this labor of love is keyboardist Jerry Burgess who also arranged and produced the album. Recorded in 2003.

Pride of place for me has to be the TRIBUTE TO PERRY COMO. As on all these recent CDs it is difficult to believe that you are listening to a man approaching his eightieth year. Don’s rich, virile and natural-sounding voice does full justice to the Como catalogue from the opening WITHOUT A SONG right through to YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE, taking in all the expected favourites along the way. Don ranges over Perry’s earlier hits like PRISONER OF LOVE and WHEN YOU WERE SWEET SIXTEEN, covers the ‘50s with MAGIC MOMENTS and WANTED and delivers lovely versions of the late hits AND I LOVE YOU SO and IT’S IMPOSSIBLE. A stand out album.

Dear Don,
"Without A Song" (A Tribute To Perry Como) is wonderful. You're doing just fine by yourself my friend, so if it's okay with you l'll skip those singing leasons. Thanks for checking in. Warmest wishes to you and Francine.

Sincerely,
George Bush (former president)

Burt Reynolds:

Dear Don,
Your tribute to Perry is wonderful. I've played it over and over, and like always, when I think of him, I smile. I have lost so many of my heroes the past few years -- that truly can't be replaced. You're one of them, so take care of yourself, my friend.
