Testimonials:
These vintage, just ripe for the picking, Cherry reissues are pure enchantment and truly show off Don’s relaxing comfortable yet slick style on a variety of songs to enormous advantage. Don’s passionate vocal swoon and croons William Engvick’s lyric for “April Age” which has a most romantic melody by Alec Wilder and is just meant for what we used to call “spooning”. Don’s take on a pair of Al Dubin evergreens sound simply fantastic. “For You” (Burke) breezes along with an additional chorus that only adds to his charming comfortable relaxed vocal. Don is so loose here that it’s truly uncanny and very unusual for him. It’s an engaging musical improvement on the Jack Leonard/Tommy Dorsey hit song. All updates should only sound like this. “I’ll String Along With You” (Warren) on the other hand is sung as a beautiful slow ballad. Don caresses each word and sings it to the hilt. Jimmy Dorsey’s “So Rare” (Sharpe/Herst) captures vocally what only Jimmy did in his famous golden record for the Fraternity label.
